Work for Polished Off

As the degree show has passed, here is the work I created! I had already put it onto my showreel CD, but since that was not publicly available it was ok to do so. Now that the films have all been shown, I see no reason as to why I can't post the work here!

Ed fly back shot, wasn't rendered in time for the finished film

Playblast only (for now)

I was sad to see Ed fly back cut from the finished film since it was a shot I was very happy with (especially the overlap for the pipe). But it is understandable that they couldn't render it in time, especially since the film worked without the shot.

Overall I'm happy with the work, thoughts from the audience?

Third Year Degree Show

Went to the degree show on friday, wow, what great work guys! It was also great seeing my work on the big screen (literally). I will post up a few examples of my work in the coming days.

Once again good job guys!

Rendered shots of work coming soon!

Just a quickie, but the rendered shots of the work I've done for the third years will be here soon! So stay tuned... if anyone reads the blog that is.

Project Evaluation

All has now been handed in, and although as of this post I'm still working on the Gnome team I had a fantastic term! What can I really say?

I will post up my animation for both projects, but I wish to get permission from both teams. I have learnt a great deal about animation this term, or more to get to the point putting it all into practice and working towards getting better, I had a few issues but I quickly amended them all.

The showreel I have created I was somewhat happy with, but there is a lot of animation work I was wanting to put into it but didn't have the chance to (yet). Mainly because many of it is unfinished and needs to be heavily tweaked in areas, I aim over the summer to follow my own guideline for animation and come up with a far more character animation suited showreel.

I will make sure over the coming weeks (when the third year degree show is up) that I will post all of the work I have created for the two groups, both of which I'm happy with! You can view the showreel and Rave Live segment below.

Polished Off Work Finished!

Work for Polished Off has now finished, I'll show you all the work at a later point!

Now time to continue with Gnomes!

Tuesday 18 May 2010

Bar and Tone

I have added the Bar and Tone to the finished submission for what would've been the Musion piece.

Update!

Work for both Polished Off and the Gnomes Team is going well, I will show you lovely people very soon what I've been up to!

Tuesday 4 May 2010

No more Musion! :(

Sad news guys, but my Rave Live stuff will not be used! Musion is no longer happening, mainly due to the fact it costs £2,000 to hire out the whole system! It was initially free, however this did quickly change. Although my work will not display on Musion now, I will still add it to my showreel once I've tweaked it a bit!

Update

Hey guys, still working on all of the set projects. So just to summarise I'm currently working on:

Showreel
Polished Off
Gnomes

It's a lot to do but I'll get there! I hope...

Finished Musion animation

Here you go guys!

I'm still not at all happy with the animation, but I made this with other projects going on at the time. I'll probably outline all of the issues in some really long post later on...

As you can see I have not rendered the floor and the lighting is overexposed, I did this so that it could work with Musion (I hope).

Progress report

I have accomplished 2 shots for the Polished Off group, and I will continue to work on the project in the coming weeks.

I am also doing a few shots for the Gnomes group.

The main project I'm actually working on at the moment is for Rave Live, using the Norman rig which will be projected onto the stage using Musion. My scene for this is nearly done, and it has to be due in by thursday.

Good examples of showreels!

Here are a few good showreels!

What am I up to?

So what am I up to eh?

Well here's the lowdown.

I am working on a few shots for both the Polished Off and Gnomes group for the third years, along with working on a Rave Live project which has to be accomplished by the 22nd April.

So in short, I'm very busy!

I'll be posting up the progress of shots for both groups in the next few days.

The Showreel

I'm actually amazed at myself for actually wanting to get the blog done as I go along!

So what's my aim for the showreel I hear you ask? Well it's simple.

I wish to create a showreel that I can use to apply for several internships over the summer.

The type of work that will be going on the showreel will go across the board with animation principles, I aim to go from the very basics of animation to some very polished body mechanics.

Here's the breakdown of what I will achieve and have in my animation showreel.

- Bouncing balls
- Locomotion
- Body mechanics
- Work to be used in BA film

Let's get cracking!

The Brief

Here's the brief people!

This unit builds directly on the Industry Exercises 1 and Industry Exercises 2 units, allowing students to use their portfolio of animation skills to develop finished broadcast animation pieces (in small teams) to be shown during Rave on Air, and to generate an individual show-reel to promote those skills to employers. Students also develop more advanced planning and organisational skills necessary to manage team productions.

This unit has the potential to allow inter-faculty collaboration through the use of animation to promote the work of other courses in the creation of animated advertisements for Rave on Air (product design for example). Intra-faculty collaboration is also possible through the use of other disciplines such as post production and sound design that naturally complement the animation industry. These collaborations will be negotiated on a per team basis.

Aims of the Unit

To enable students to initiate, plan, and complete complex team projects.
To enable students to work to broadcast standards of quality.
To provide experience of establishing and developing team project schedules and tracking progress towards project completion.
To enable students to demonstrate and promote the range and quality of their animation skills through the production of a show-reel.

By the end of this unit students will be able to demonstrate:

Individual Reflective Journal
Evidence of critical reflection on the creative and artistic merits of their work in relation to contemporary practice. (A1, C1)
Evidence of critical reflection on team dynamics and performance. (E1)

Showreel
Evidence of creative presentation and promotion of students’ individual repertoire of animation skills. (A1, C1, D1)
Evidence of the critical analysis and selection of work of an appropriate quality for submission. (A1, C1)

Broadcast Piece
Evidence in the realisation of the projects of systematic application of animation skills and practices to the standard expected for an entrant to professional animation or visualisation. (D1, E1)
Initiate and negotiate a team project and independently manage their time and workflow. (B1, E1)
Successful completion, to a broadcast state, of a team animation project. (B1, D1, E1)

Along with the Journal (you're looking at it right now!) and the showreel I shall be working with a team from the third year. I believe this is best since I can develop my skills as an animator even further to exactly the level I want them to be.
